Rev. Dr. Carl Washington, Sr.

Date:

Carl L. Washington, Sr. was called into the ministry of the Gospel by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and his Certificate of Ordination from the Maryland General Baptist Association was officially conferred in 1960. Dr. Washington was known as a theological giant who passionately preached the Word of God in the streets, prisons, mental health institutions, hospitals, churches, conventions and anywhere the Lord led him to go, and to anyone the Lord moved him to touch. He was generous to the poor, kind to the hurting, helpful to the needy and firm in his faith.

Carl Washington, Sr. founded the St. Timothy’s Christian Baptist Church and the first location was at 1724 West Lafayette Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland. After being there three years, the church relocated to a building at Polk and Homestead Streets in East Baltimore and continued to grow as a vibrant, Bible-believing and missional congregation until Pastor Washington was called to the Trinity Baptist Church, located 1601 Druid Hill Avenue in West Baltimore. The entire congregation followed Pastor to Trinity and continued serving the Lord under his leadership with a new church family.

In 1972, the New Mount Zion Baptist Church, in the 800 block of North Mount Street, called Pastor Washington to be their leader, where he served almost one year. Pastor Washington then reorganized the St. Timothy’s Christian Baptist Church, purchasing the building at 4005 Groveland Avenue, where his missional leadership has impacted the surrounding community, husbands and wives, families and children by providing on-site voter registration, clothing and food distribution, free summer meals programs for children, community picnics and festivals, Prayer in the Park evangelistic services, coaching and training, and job placement assistance, first aid workshops, and grief counseling.

His desire to reach the lost and the least with the love of Jesus also extended beyond the church’s community to places in need of resources such as Flint, Michigan, providing workers and resources to places where hurricanes and storms destroyed homes in Atlantic City, Louisiana, Texas and Florida and other needs both near and far away. Pastor Washington’s love truly has reached out to friends around the world, but especially to our brothers and sisters in Haiti, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Hawaii and Jamaica.
