Rev. Dr. Kevin Rogers, Sr.

Date:

Bishop Kevin A. Rogers

September 9, 1951 – December 12, 2014

On September 9, 1951, God revealed his divine plan for Bishop Kevin Avon Rogers, the youngest of four siblings, and blessed the union of the late George C. and Katie F. Rogers. Once the divine assignment was decreed and finalized, Bishop heard the whisper of our Lord to return home for his eternal rest on Friday, December 12, 2014. Let it be known and documented in the registry of the righteous that the soul of our beloved, his Eminence, the late Bishop Kevin A. Rogers, D.D. has been released and hereby returned to his Heavenly Father. The bondage of suffering has been destroyed, the enemy defeated, and the divine assignment completed.

Kevin was reared in a loving, nurturing, Christian home. He was instilled with the word of God by his parents, who ensured that their children attended Sunday School and church faithfully. Kevin accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at a very early age and was baptized at Christian Community Church of God in Baltimore, Maryland under the spiritual leadership of the late Pastor Conway Greene.

When Kevin, under the divine direction of the Holy Spirit, announced his acceptance and heeding to the Lord’s call to ministry in April 1972, it came as no surprise. It was recognized at an early age that “Little Kevin” was predestined to be a man servant of God. Many neighbors recalled seeing him on his parents’ back porch preaching and singing while using any objects he could think of, including his mother’s empty cotton spools, as his congregation. His love for God and the receiving of his assignment was manifested as he continued his work in and around the community. His ministry would carry him throughout many major cities and states.

“Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our

salvation.” Psalm 95:1

Not only was Kevin a powerful and magnificent preacher of the word, he was also considered to be one of the greatest musicians in Baltimore City. After several years of piano and organ lessons, Kevin was later accepted into “The Peabody Conservatory of Music”. As a well accomplished Gospel Organist and Pianist, Kevin served as Minister of Music for several churches and Gospel Choirs in and around Baltimore City.

“And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.” Jeremiah 3:15

Preaching and the ministry of music was just the beginning this great man of God. They were just a few prerequisites that God had established to prepare him for his journey as a pastor. On May 21, 1980 at 7:30 p.m., a meeting was called by Kevin at the home of the late Trustee and Mother Lenon Harvey. As it was recalled by the remaining foundering members (Deaconess Gloria Murray, Missionary Josie Moulton, Pastor Ronald Billy, Margaret Cotton, Hannah “Don” Rogers and many others) Kevin announced and declared, “I don’t know when or where a place of worship will become available, but by “God’s Grace” we will make it.” The name “New Fellowship Christian Community Church” was presented by Pastor Rogers and approved by the members. God held firmly to the prophecy he embedded in the spirit of our pastor and after several more meetings with the official board; and two worshipping locations, our third and present house of worship would be 5200-5204 Park Heights Avenue.

Shortly after establishing the New Fellowship Christian Community Church, Pastor Rogers was bestowed with and became the proud recipient of an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degree from the Wilbur H. Waters School of Religion of Baltimore, Maryland. He also received many other citations and awards for his diligent involvement in the community. The “Champion of Courage” in February 2000 and “Outstanding Individual & Community Outreach Church” in June 2001 are just a few of the many accomplishments Pastor Rogers attained during his earthly travels.

Within the many years of pastoring and leading a church, Dr. Rogers also worked at the Noxell Company, which would later become Procter & Gamble, where he worked for several years until his retirement in 1996. After his retirement, Dr. Rogers was further led by God to serve in many other capacities including, member of the Interdenominational Ministers Alliance, Board of Directors for the Northwest Baltimore Corporation, the Park Heights Networking Community Council, and the Board of Directors of Maryland’s One Church-One Addict (MOCOA), and an educator for Baltimore County Public Schools.

One special outreach ministry that Dr. Rogers held dear to his heart was the opportunity to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ as one of thirteen (13) preachers travelling along with the late Dr. Harold A. Carter, Sr. to Kenya East Africa in July 2002, serving three churches in Mombasa, Nairobi, and Nyeri. This mission would be one that he would long remember after his return home.

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church,

and gave himself for it.” Ephesians 5:25

While establishing himself as a pastor he met and married the love of his life, the former Dorothea Evelyn Jennings, whom he affectionately referred to as “Dot.” They were united in Holy Matrimony on May 1, 1998; and to this union a beautiful daughter was born, Keziah Avonna Rogers. Three wonderful sons, Steven Antonio, Kedric Aaron, and Keith Windell were brought into this union. Dr. Rogers not only considered Lady Rogers as his wife, but she was also his best friend and partner in marriage and ministry. He enjoyed shopping for her and made certain that her garments complimented his attire every Sunday and for other outings and events. She was truly the queen of his castle and worked diligently as that virtuous woman that God entrusted to keep her husband happy and supported.

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God,

a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the

word of truth.” II Timothy 2:15

After thirty-three years of committed and loyal service to God, in May 2012, Dr. Timothy W. Tillman, Pastor Daniel Moore, and Pastor Debbie Carter elected Dr. Kevin A. Rogers to become Bishop over the Kingdom Fellowship Covenant Assembly, Inc. As a result of that election, Bishop-Elect Kevin A. Rogers was duly consecrated in May 2013 as the first Presiding Prelate of the Kingdom Fellowship Covenant Assembly, Inc. by Archbishop, the Most Reverend, D. Myles Golphin of Living In Favor Global Network and International Alliance of Bishops.

This robe of flesh I’ll drop and rise to seize the everlasting prize; And shout, while passing through the air, “Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer!”

Bishop Kevin A. Rogers now joins in eternity; his parents George C. and Katie F. Rogers; his oldest and loyal brother, George; his second oldest brother, Reginald; his loving sister, Rosalind; grandparents, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins who has, too, transitioned to their heavenly home.

Our lives will forever be transformed and blessed because we were granted one of the greatest gifts of God…the presence and love of one of the greatest Bishops – Kevin A. Rogers
